4 Assembly and Packaging

４.１软管灯所有的电气元件都要正确安装接线。

4.1 A flexible lighting product shall be completely wired with each electrical component mounted in place and with each splice and connection completed.

４.２满足1４节中要求的可拆式电源线和延长线不需连接。

4.2 Detachable power-supply cords and extension segments that comply with Section 14 need not be connected.

４.３可拆式电源线的软管灯包装时，要求包括可拆式电源线。

4.3 The package for a flexible lighting product designed to be connected to its source of supply by means of a detachable power-supply cord shall include the detachable power-supply cord. ５外壳 5 Enclosures

５.１外壳须能够承受误用时所产生的种种缺陷,如外壳的损坏、电气间隙的减少、零件的松散或移位，这些缺陷能够引起火灾，电击或危害人身安全。

5.1 The enclosure shall withstand the abuses that it is subjected to without total or partial collapse of the enclosure, reduction of spacing, loosening or displacement of parts, or other defects that increase the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.

5.2 . 带电体的绝缘塑料材料须符合下列要求:

5.2 A polymeric material used to enclose or provide structural support for electrical current carrying parts shall: a) 最小耐阻燃等级是V-1;

a) Have a minimum flammability rating V-1;and

b)Have a minimum HWI (hot-wire resistance to ignition) Performance Level Category(PLC) of 3, a minimum HAI (high-current arc resistance to ignition) PLC of 2, and a minimum CTI PLC of 4, if marked for indoor use, or a minimum PLC of 3, if marked for outdoor use.

5.2.1 软管灯的塑料材料须符合下列要求:

5.3在5.2(a)中所规定的塑料材料耐阻燃性,通过做UL94中的测试来判定是否符合要求.

5.3 The flammability rating specified in 5.2(a) is to be determined by the applicable tests in the Standard for Tests for Flammability of Plastic Materials for Parts in Devices and Appliances, UL94.

5.4 As an alternative to 5.2(a), the polymeric material is able to comply with the 3/4 inch or 12mm flame test of the Standard for Polymeric Materials-Use in Electrical Equipment Evaluations, UL746C. At the conclusion of the test there shall not be openings large enough to enable a 1/4 inch (6.4mm) diameter rod to penetrate the enclosure and there shall not be ignition of the cotton indicator. The indicator is to be absorbent, 100 percent cotton thinned to approximately 2 by 2 inches(50 by 50 mm) and a maximum thickness of 0.24 inches (6mm). The cotton is to be placed horizontally 11.8±0.39 inches (33±10mm) below the component material.

a) Be installed on the unit when it is temperature tested; b) Have a minimum flammability rating of HB;and

c) Not melt or deform in any way that interferes with the mormal operation of the flexible lighting product or causes a risk of fire or electric shock during the Normal Temperature Test, Section 。

6A 造型灯 6A Light Sculptures

6A.1造型灯的框架应符合下列要求: 6A.1The frame of a light sculpture shall be:

a) 可以是金属材料,金属要求无披锋现象,以免割伤和磨损导线或绝缘材料;

a) Metal that is free of sharp edges or burrs that are able to cut or abrade conductors or the insulation; or

b)A polymeric material that complies with the complies with the Oven Conditioning Test,Section 27, such that strss is not placed on electrical connections or wire as a result of the test.

7.1An uninsulated current carrying part involving a risk of shock shall be enclosed so that it is not accessible to unintentional contact by persons during normal use.

7.2A current carrying part is considered inaccessible when the UL articulated accessibility probe, shown in Figure 7.1, is unable to be manipulated to touch it. The probe shall be applied to any depth that the opening will permit; and shall be rotated or angled, before, during, and after insertion through the opening, to any position that is necessary to try and contact the current carrying part.

8.1A polymeric material used as an electrical insulator, or as direct or indirect support of a current carrying part, shall comply with the requirements in the Standard for Polymeric Materials-Use in Electrical Equipment Evaluations, UL746C.

9 电气间隙 9.Electrical Spacing

9.1除9.1.1中外，不同极性的未绝缘带电部件之间、绝缘带电部件与可接地的金属之间，通过空气或表面的电气间隙不得小于1/16英寸（1.6mm）。

9.1Except as noted in 9.1.1, the electrical spacing between uninsulated current carrying parts of opposite polarity, and between uninsulated current carrying parts and accessible metal that is capable of being grounded shall be minimum 1/16 inch(1.6mm) through air or over surface.

11 导线 11 Conductors

11.1所有的导线都应是铜或铜合金。

12.Splice and Connections

12.1连接在机械和电气方面应是安全的。

12.2Field connections shall be limited to detachable power supply cords and interconnection of extension segments.

12.3The field connections in 12.2 shall not permit accessibility to uninsulated current carrying parts during installation, i.e. the supply side end shall have a female configuration and the mating load side shall have a male configuration.

13 插头

13. Attachment plugs

13.1用于软管灯的插头应符合NEMA的标准，5-15(15A,120V) 或 5-20 (20A, 120V) 的配置，附带保险丝并且有极性。

13.2Attachment plugs shall comply with the applicable requirements of the Standard for Attachment Plugs and Receptacles, UL 498 or the Standard for Cord Sets and Power Supply Cords, UL 817。 13.2.1不可延长的软管灯的插头没有带保险丝和极性的要求。

13.2.1A flexible lighting product that is non-extendable is not required to comply with 13.1 (b) and (c).

14 连接方式

14.Interconnecting Means

14.1接头应满足插头和插座的适用标准要求UL498，或者UL817电源线，或者UL588的适用标准要求，且在负载下适合制造和破坏。

14.1 Connectors shall comply with the applicable requirements of the Standard for Attachment Plugs and Receptacle, Ul498 or the Standard for Cord Sets and Power Supply Cords, UL 817 or the Standard for Seasonal and Holiday Decorative Products, UL 588, and shall be suitable for making and breaking under load.

14.2 Crimp connections made between internal wiring and a connector shall comply with the Crimp Connection Secureness Test , Section 30.

14.2内部接线和接头之间的弯曲连接应满足30节的弯曲接线安全测试。

14.3互连接线方式由带极性的接头部分，SR，并且互连部件的结构要求有维护电气连接。

14.3The interconnection means shall consist of connector parts where the means of maintaining polarity, strain relief, and maintaining electrical connections are inherent in the construction of the interconnecting parts.

14.4An interconnecting means shall not require any assembly by the user other than the connection of mating male and female connectors。

15开关，保险丝，控制器 15 Switches, Fuses, and Controllers

15.1 开关或者控制器须的额定电压、额定电流须能承受最大负载.

15.1 A switch or controller shall have a voltage and current rating suitable for the maximum load it controls.

15.2 控制器必须符合标准UL508或UL588。

15.3 软管灯是否带开关或控制器无规定。

15.3 A flexible lighting product is not required to be provided with a switch or controller.

?15.4 开关、保险丝或其它保护装置不能连接到接地的导线。

15.4 A switch, fuse or other protective device shall be connected to the ungrounded supply conductor.

15.5 保险丝的额定电流值不能超过下列（a）（b）所规定的最小值。

15.5 The current rating of the fuse employed shall not exceed the lesser of the following values: a）表11.1所规定的内部导线、电源线、连接线的正常电流值。

a) The normal current rating as shown in Table 11.1 for the internal conductors, power supply cords, or interconnecting cords; or

b) 连接器开关、插头、带有保险丝作过电流保护的控制器的额定电流值的120%。

b)120 percent of the current rating of any connector switch, plug, or a controller that relies on the fuse for overcurrent protection.

16 电源线和连接线

16 Power Supply Cord and Interconnecting Cords

16.1 电源线和连接线须符合下列要求：

a) Not smaller than No.18 AWG(0.82mm2); b) 至少等同SPT-2线 b） At least equal to SPT-2; c） 阻燃等级VW-1 c) Rated VW-1;and

d) 最大的正常电流不能超过表11.1中所规定的。

18 安装方法 18 Mounting Means

18.1 软管灯须提供一种安装方式。

18.1 A flexible lighting product shall be provided with a means for mounting.

18.2 安装方式不允许出现刺破损坏灯体的表皮，否者灯体的绝缘性会受到损坏。 18.2 The mounting means shall not pinch or otherwise damage the insulation of the flexible light.

18.3所设计的安装方式应能确保软管灯永久性的固定在建筑上或其它类似的结构上。同时，设计相匹配的固定夹也须永久性的固定在建筑上。

18.3 The mounting means shall be designed to prohibit permanently securing the flexible lighting to a building, permanent fixtures, or other similar structures. This does not preclude the provision of clips or separable mounting brackets that are designed to be permanently attached to a building structure.

18.4 不须使用工具就可以将灯体从固定夹取出。

18.4 A flexible lighting product shall not require tools to remove it from the mounting clips or brackets. 性能

PERFORMANCE

19 输入测试 19 Input Test

UL 2388 19.1输入120V，60HZ，输入的电流不能超过额定电流值的10%。

19.1 The input current to the flexible light shall not exceed the marked rating by more than 10 percent when connected to a 120V,60Hz source of supply. 19.2 此测试中，须要求软管灯灯体的长度最大。

19.2 The maximum number of extension segment or flexible light lengths permitted by the installation instructions shall be connected to the flexible light during this test.

20温度测试

20 Normal Temperature Test

20.1输入120V，60Hz，测量产品的温度，其温度值要符合表20..1所规定。测试过程及结束后，产品不能有软化、变形、脱色现象。

20.1 The temperature rises measured on the flexible light, when mounted as described in 20.3 and connected to a 120V,60Hz source of supply, shall not exceed the values specified in Table 20.1. There shall be no melting, deformation, or discoloration of any polymeric materials involving a risk of fire or shock.

20.2 测试的环境温度为77+9F(25+5C).

20.2 Tests are to be conducted at an ambient temperature of 77+9F(25+5C).

20.3 选取产品中有代表性的一段灯体做测试，以下的安装方式每一种均须测试。

20.3 A representative section of the flexible light shall be mounted and tested for each of the following installations:

方式A- Ceiling Mount – 依据UL1598，软管灯安装在经过绝缘测试的天花板上，10跟并排，0.2英寸（5mm） 间隙。

Method A- Ceiling Mount-The flexible light shall be mounted on an insulated test ceiling in accordance with Standard for Luminaries , UL1598 and arranged so that there are 10 parallel lengths, with a 0.2 inch (5mm) spacing between lengths.

？？方式B- Alcove Mounting- 此软管灯须沿着U型合板凹室（其底部是开口的）顶部平行的安装， Method B- Alcove Mounting- The flexible light shall be mounted horizontally along the top of a U-shaped plywood alcove that is open at the bottom, with side walls 1/2 inch (12.7mm) from the edge of the flexible light.

方式C- Mounting On Pole-将软管灯盘旋在一棵直径为 6±0.25inch (152±6.35mm)的木柱上，形成单旋。 Method C- Mounting On Pole – The flexible light shall be tightly coiled around a 6±0.25inch (152±6.35mm) diameter wooden pole to form a single layer of adjacent turns.

UL 2388 20.4测试的可连接软管灯的样本须足以代表其制造厂商所规定的最大的连接的长度。

20.4 an extendible flexible lighting unit shall be provided with a suitable load to represent the total maximum length specified by the manufacturer.

20.5 用30 AWG 热电藕的探针和适当的测量仪器测量温度。将灯通电，测量温度，直至获得恒温。须将此软管灯工作至少3小时，每隔30分钟读取数值，连续3个的温度值的偏差都是在1.8。F以内，就可以认为是恒温。

20.5 Temperature measurements are to be made with No.30AWG iron Constant thermocouple wires and an appropriate measurement instrument. The unit is to be operated until constant temperatures are obtained, where constant temperatures are indicated by the test running for at least 3 hours and where three successive readings at thirty minute intervals are within 1.8F(1C) of one another and not still rising.

20.6测量温度时，须将热电藕的探针伸进灯体的内皮，并且尽可能的触到灯泡。可以在灯体适当的切缝或钻孔，以利于探针伸进灯体的内皮。要特别小心的切缝或钻孔，否则会损坏产品，或者开口太大，导致热量散发，从而导致测量样本的温度不具备代表性。

20.6 Temperature measurements of the flexible light housing shall be made by thermocouples in contact with the inner surface of the tube as close as possible to a light (heat) source. This may be accomplished by slitting or drilling through the enclosure to an appropriate depth,

21 非正常测试

21 Abnormal Operation Test

21.1最长的软管灯须紧紧的绕在直径6英寸（152.4MM）的轴上，使得轴的高度近似等于绕体的总宽度。环绕的灯体每四圈要成90度增加。然后取出轴，将此样品放置在单层绵纸上，并覆盖其灯体。

21.1 The flexible light of maximum length shall be tightly coiled around a 6 inch (152.4mm) diameter mandrel, with the cross sectional dimensions of the resulting stack of turns approximately equal in height and width. Four

UL 2388 pieces of string, distributed equidistantly around the coil at 90 degree increments, are to be used to secure the coil in this configuration. The mandrel shall then be removed, and the sample placed on a tissue paper covered soft wood board and covered with a single layer of tissue paper.

21.2 输入120V，60HZ电压，20A的保险丝做保护装置，通电直至获得恒温，但通电时间不能小于7小时。

21.2 the sample shall be connected to a 120 volt, 60 Hz source of supply, protected by a 20A slow blow fuse, and operated until constant temperatures are obtained, but not less than 7.5 hours.

21.3 The results are acceptable if there is no glowing, flaming or charring of the tissue paper nor any melting, cracking or deformation of the polymeric materials that allows accessibility to current carrying parts as determined by applying the accessibility probe as described in 7.2. Opening of the line fuse or the attachment plug fuse is an acceptable result.

22 绝缘电阻测试

22 Insulation Resistance Test

22.1 在（a）（b）条件下测试的绝缘电阻不能小于100兆欧姆： 2.1 在（a）（b）条件下测试的绝缘电阻不能小于100兆欧姆：

22.1 The insulation resistance of a flexible light shall not less than 100 megohms when measured between: a）带电体与人可接触到的非带电体之间或可接地的非带电体。

a) Current carrying parts and dead metal parts that are exposed to contact by persons or that may be grounded in service; and

b) 带电体与灯体的外表皮和电线。

b) Current carrying parts and any external surface of the light enclosure and cords.

22.3 The insulation resistance is to be measured by a magneto megohmmeter that has an open-circuit output of 500 volts, or by equivalent equipment.

UL 2388 ball bearings with an approximate diameter of 0.10 inch (2.5mm). The shot is to be connected to one terminal of the insulation resistance measurement equipment, and the current carrying parts of the flexible light are to be connected to the other terminal of the equipment.

22.5 对于户外用的软管灯，在做绝缘电阻测试之前，须做盐水测试。将软管灯浸在盐溶液中24小时，此盐溶液是每公升的蒸馏水含有8克氯化钠。软管灯体浸在盐溶液中，但要确保单独接头的任何部件不能浸到盐溶液。

22.5 A flexible light intended for outdoor use shall additionally be tested by immersing the flexible light for a period of 24 hours in a salt solution consisting of 8 g of NaCl per liter of distilled water prior to conducting the insulation resistance test. A metal tub shall be used as a container for the salt solution, and serve as the external electrode for the insulation resistance measurement equipment test terminal. The flexible light shall be positioned in the solution so that no part of a separable connector is immersed in the solution.

23 耐压测试

23 Dielectric Voltage Withstand Test

23.1 软管灯须能承受耐压测试，1250V，60 Hz，打高压时间为1分钟。具体见下列（ a）(b):

23.1 The flexible light shall be capable of withstanding without breakdown for a period of 1 minute, the application of a 60-Hz potential of 1250 volts between:

24.1 One sample of the flexible light, including connectors, is to be plugged into a 120 volt supply and stretched out flat on a hardwood surface to form a straight line and operated for a minimum of 1 hour. A piece of 1/2 inch (50.8mm) thick plywood measuring 3 by 3 inch (76.2 by 76.2 mm) is placed on top of a representative section of the flexible light enclosure along its longitudinal and a load of 200 pound (90.9 kg ) is to be gradually applied to the top of the plywood and allowed to remain in this condition for a period of one minute. The test may be repeated along the length of the flexible light to encure that all representative sections, including connectors and end caps, are tested.

At the centered position, the flexible light body is to hang vertically and a test weight of 10 ounces (284g) shall be attached to the flexible light body approximately 12 inches (305mm) from the point of rotation.

After removal from the oven, the sample is to be permitted to cool to room temperature and then inspected.

28 冷弯测试 28 Cold Bend Test

28.1 A sample of the flexible light intended for outdoor use and a 3 inch (76.2mm) diameter metal mandrel are to be placed in a cold chamber maintained at –4±36.F(-20±2.C) for a period of 4 hours. Immediately upon removal from the chamber, the flexible light is to be tightly wound around the mandrel for six complete turns. This winding operation is to be completed within 30 seconds of the time that the cold chamber is opened.

The Strain Relief Test is to be conducted after the sample has cooled to room temperature.

30.1 Six samples of the individual crimp connections used to make electrical connection to the flexible light conductors or connectors are to be subjected to this test. Samples are to be tested with the outer plastic enclosure jacketing removed. Each terminal is to be held rigidly and a 20 pound (9.1 kg) weight attached to the conductor. The weight is then to be gradually released to hang freely suspended for a duration of one minute.

32 淋雨测试 32 Rain Test

32.1 户外用的软管灯，须做淋雨测试。将测试样品置于平面，测试的时间及条件见表32.1。此淋雨测试所用的淋雨设备，要求符合UL1598的标准。须将测试样品置于淋雨的焦点，这样可以使得垫圈、接头充分淋湿。对于可连接的软管灯，须将此软管灯连接好，再做淋雨测试。水流量调节为5 psi（34.5 kPa），模拟下大雨。

32.1 A sample of the flexible light intended for outdoor use shall be positioned on a flat surface and energized as indicated in the following table. The test is to be conducted using the rain apparatus as described in the Standard for Luminaires, UL 1598. The unit shall be positioned in the focal area of the spray in order to cause maximum wetting of gaskets, joints and openings. If the flexible light is extendible,the test is to be conducted with an additional unit plugged into the extension connector. The water flow gauges are to be adjusted to jield a 5 psi (34.5 kPa) water spray to simulate a beating rain for sequence in Table 32.1.
